Applying sport science to the real-world of off-court training.
The tennis world is a difficult one to navigate. With endless streams of eye-catching videos, it’s not easy to discern what actually qualifies as ‘fitness for tennis’. Not to mention, how to actually develop qualities that higher levels of tennis-play require.
On the flip-side, there are hundreds of scientific studies being published - which sadly, aren’t actually being read and used by coaches working with elite players.
Compound the fact that tennis is nothing like many other sports. There’s no ‘team’ of fitness coaches or a medical staff. Players are mostly on their own. If they’re lucky, their training at an academy but then again, very little is individualized.
And as a coach, if you’re not getting results, players will move on quickly, leaving you wondering what went wrong.
If this sounds like a scenario you’re familiar with, then I can probably guess you’re either a tennis coach, an S&C coach or a physiotherapist - working in an environment that requires you to know more (and do more) than you ever thought.
